“God is not mainly looking for great gifts. He is looking for great faith that is willing to be filled with the Holy Spirit and then does good.” – John Piper

As I’ve been settling in here at San Luis Obispo, and Cal Poly, I’ve been sensing that the Lord has called me here for a season of preparation. There is so much about this movement that provides healthy balance, team dynamics, and personal development. I would argue that this ministry looks fairly close to what a “movement” could look like. Of course it’s not perfect, but God is at work here and people are investing their lives into faithful men (and women) for the quickest advancement of the gospel via spiritual multiplication.
But there is still something restless within me; something that stirs my soul for the place where I can really “put my roots down” and labor for my lifetime. Every man wants to find a place he can sow his labor seeds and see fruit birthed from that labor. Furthermore, every man should want to sow his “wild oat” seeds by finding the woman he loves and marrying her for the purpose of displaying the gospel of Jesus Christ (Genesis 2). Part of my waiting process, and sanctification, is anticipating my future wife and the many blessings that will come with leading, serving, and honoring her. I often dream what it will be like to have my “Eve” by my side; to love her with a strength like no other; to admire her; to point her to Jesus.
I sense that my lifelong labor is not here. But for the real question: Where?
That I can’t quite tell you right now. There are so many places that I would be willing to go as the Lord leads. Honestly, I would go anywhere Holy Spirit leads me. God has blessed me with a peace that surpasses comfort of any kind through the past few years. My short time of service to our Savior Jesus has taught me many things, one vital lesson being this:
As God leads, he calls and provides.
Part of this beautiful dance called life as Christians is that we get to follow Jesus as he moves in front of us. Praise God that he gives us the capacity to follow him as we dwell upon his character and goodness (Psalm 119:38). As for now, I can only be obedient to God’s call on my life to be here in SLO for the next few years. I pray that when God leads me to the next step of obedience he will find “great faith that is willing to be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Where is Jesus asking you to follow him? Really, I’d love to hear you thoughts.
Expectantly waiting,
Matt
